Tailored Nutrient IV Infusion

Wondering whether a nutrient IV infusion is right for you, and what actually happens before one is given? At IV Health Sunshine Coast, every tailored nutrient IV infusion starts with a nurse consultation and comprehensive screening, so your suitability is confirmed first and your formulation is decided in consultation with your practitioner.

What This Infusion Involves

This infusion is listed on our menu, and the formulation itself is decided in consultation with your practitioner. It delivers sterile fluids, with vitamins and nutrients where these are clinically appropriate and included in your script, directly into your bloodstream through an IV drip.

It is a fluid and nutrient infusion only. It is not a treatment for nerve pain, numbness, neuropathy or any other health condition, and we do not claim that it changes your symptoms or how you feel.

Symptoms Belong With Your Healthcare Provider

Symptoms such as tingling, numbness, burning, weakness or pain can have many different causes, and some need prompt medical assessment. If you notice any of these, or they are new, ongoing or getting worse, please see your healthcare provider so the cause can be properly investigated.

An IV infusion is not a substitute for medical care. If symptoms come on suddenly, such as weakness or numbness on one side of the body, call 000 straight away.

Before booking any IV treatment, it helps to share these details with your healthcare provider and with our nurse:

  • Any diagnosed health conditions, including heart, kidney or blood sugar conditions
  • All medicines and supplements you currently take
  • Any allergies or past reactions to an infusion or injection
  • Recent blood test results, if you have them

Comprehensive Screening Before Every Session

Comprehensive screening sits behind every session at IV Health Sunshine Coast. Before any infusion, a nurse reviews your health history, current medications and wellbeing goals. A medical practitioner with a special interest in integrative care then confirms whether treatment is clinically appropriate for you and, where suitable, issues a personalised prescription. For safety, every infusion is administered by a registered nurse.

Baseline blood tests are not mandatory for everyone, though they are often recommended, and your suitability is discussed at your nurse consultation and confirmed by the practitioner before a script is issued. You can take our pre-treatment blood test list to your healthcare provider if testing is suggested. No referral is required for this infusion.

A complimentary discovery call with a nurse via telehealth is available to help you decide whether this is a good fit for you. The call is free, there is no obligation to proceed, and it does not include scripting or treatment.

Your Visit, Step by Step

Your first visit takes around 60 to 90 minutes because it includes your consultation and scripting. You can read the full process on our Our Process page.

Your nurse goes through your health history, medications and wellbeing goals with you. If anything you mention suggests you would be better supported by your healthcare provider first, your nurse tells you so before going any further.

A medical practitioner with a special interest in integrative care confirms whether treatment is clinically appropriate for you and, where suitable, issues a personalised vitamin and nutrient prescription. Your script is valid for 12 months. If your health, your medicines or your symptoms change, your nurse and practitioner review your health again before any further infusion.

A registered nurse administers your infusion in a monitored setting, using single-use consumables every session. An infusion usually runs for around 30 to 60 minutes, and your nurse checks on you throughout.

There is no set schedule. Because individual needs and responses vary, any further session is only considered in consultation with your practitioner, where it is clinically appropriate.

Risks, Safety and Aftercare

Every infusion is administered by a registered nurse in a monitored environment. Our team brings many years of combined experience in nursing, midwifery and integrative medicine, and careful screening and prescribing sit at the centre of how we work.

As with any IV treatment, there are risks. Some people notice minor discomfort, bruising or redness at the cannula site. Less commonly, IV treatment can cause vein irritation, infection at the cannula site or a reaction to an ingredient in your formulation, and it is not suitable for everyone, including some people with heart or kidney conditions or who take certain medicines. Your nurse talks you through the risks before your session.

After your session, your nurse talks you through some simple aftercare. Keep hydrating through the day, aiming for 1 to 2 litres of water unless your nurse or healthcare provider has advised otherwise, eat whole, nutrient-dense meals, and rest if you need to. Keep to gentle movement and avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting with your infusion arm for 24 hours, minimise alcohol, and reduce caffeine for the rest of the day. Your nurse also provides aftercare specific to the formulation you receive.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. This infusion is not a treatment for nerve pain, neuropathy or any neurological condition, and we do not claim that it changes your symptoms or how you feel. If you have symptoms such as tingling, numbness or pain, please see your healthcare provider so the cause can be investigated.

Your formulation is decided in consultation with your practitioner. It is based on sterile fluids, with vitamins and nutrients added only where they are clinically appropriate and included in your script. Your nurse and practitioner explain exactly what is in your infusion at your consultation.

No referral is required. Like all our infusions, it is practitioner-scripted, which means a nurse and a medical practitioner with a special interest in integrative care will review your health and confirm whether treatment is appropriate before your session.

IV treatment is not suitable for everyone. Some heart or kidney conditions, certain medicines and allergies may mean it is not appropriate for you, which is why your nurse reviews your health history and medications first. If a nurse or one of our healthcare practitioners does not think IV nutrient therapies are suitable for you, they will let you know and recommend that you speak with your healthcare provider.

An infusion usually runs for around 30 to 60 minutes. Your first visit takes a little longer, around 60 to 90 minutes in total, because it includes your nurse consultation and practitioner scripting.

Because your formulation is decided at your consultation, the cost depends on what is included in your script and is confirmed with you before your session, so you know the full cost before you decide to go ahead. Additional consultation fees may apply for scripting and mobile visits.

Yes, as with any IV treatment. Minor discomfort, bruising or redness at the cannula site can occur. Less commonly, IV treatment can cause vein irritation, infection at the cannula site or a reaction to an ingredient in your formulation. This is why comprehensive screening comes before every session, and your nurse talks you through the risks, what to expect and your aftercare.
