IV Hydration Infusion

After a big event, hot Queensland days, or a particularly demanding stretch, your body can end up short on fluids. An IV hydration infusion at IV Health Sunshine Coast is designed to replace fluids and electrolytes, with each session screened and personalised..

What Is an IV Hydration Infusion

An IV hydration infusion delivers sterile fluids and electrolytes directly into your bloodstream through an IV drip. It is designed to replace the fluids and electrolytes your body loses through everyday life, from exercise and heat to travel and busy periods.

Your formulation is tailored to you. A base of balanced fluids and electrolytes can be combined with vitamins or nutrients where these are clinically appropriate and included in your script. If you are weighing up a smaller, shorter option, your nurse can talk you through whether a booster may suit you, while an infusion provides a larger volume of fluids over a longer session. You can also explore our other infusion options. The Myers Cocktail is a named compounded IV blend of injectable magnesium, B vitamins and vitamin C.

What an IV Hydration Infusion May Support

An IV hydration infusion focuses on one clear job: replacing fluids and electrolytes. For some people, that route may be a helpful option after periods of higher fluid loss. Individual needs vary, and your suitability is assessed before every session.

People often consider a hydration infusion in situations such as:

  • After intense exercise, a busy event weekend, or a big day in the Queensland heat
  • Following travel or long shifts
  • After a period of feeling run down, once any acute illness has passed
  • As part of a broader wellness plan, in consultation with your practitioner

An IV hydration infusion is not a substitute for medical care, and it is not intended to treat any medical condition. Severe dehydration is a medical emergency and needs urgent medical attention. If you are unwell, please call the clinic and speak with a nurse so we can talk through what is right for you.

Screening and Consultation Before Your Infusion

Comprehensive screening sits behind every session at IV Health Sunshine Coast. Before any infusion, a nurse reviews your health history, current medications and wellbeing goals, and an integrative medical practitioner confirms clinical appropriateness and, where suitable, issues a personalised script.

Baseline blood tests are not mandatory for everyone, though they are often recommended, and your suitability is discussed at your nurse consultation and confirmed by the practitioner before a script is issued. You can take our pre-treatment blood test list to your healthcare provider if testing is suggested. No referral is required for a hydration infusion.

A complimentary discovery call with a nurse via telehealth to determine if this is a good fit for you is available.

How to Book an IV Hydration Infusion

Your first visit runs around 60 to 90 minutes because it includes your consultation and scripting, and later visits are shorter once your script is in place. Here is how the process works, step by step. You can read more on our Our Process page.

Your nurse reviews your health history, medications and wellbeing goals, and talks through what you are hoping to get from your session. This is where we get to know you and make sure a hydration infusion is a sensible fit.

An integrative medical practitioner confirms that treatment is clinically appropriate for you and, where suitable, issues a personalised vitamin and nutrient prescription. Your script is valid for 12 months, so return visits within that time do not repeat this step unless you need something new added.

A registered nurse administers your infusion while you settle into a recliner chair with a massage function, in a calm, monitored setting. Single-use consumables are used every session, and a hydration infusion usually runs for around 30 to 60 minutes.

Because individual needs and responses vary, session frequency is decided in consultation with your practitioner rather than set by a fixed schedule. Follow-up sessions are scheduled as needed, with periodic reviews so your plan can be adjusted over time.

Safety and Transparency

Every hydration infusion is administered by a registered nurse in a monitored environment, using single-use consumables each session. Our team brings more than 40 years of combined experience in nursing, midwifery and integrative medicine, and safe prescribing sits at the centre of how we work.

Because a hydration infusion is delivered intravenously, the fluids and electrolytes enter your bloodstream directly rather than through digestion. For some people, that route of delivery may be a helpful option at certain times, though it is not a replacement for drinking fluids day to day, and it is not a substitute for medical care.

After your session, your nurse talks you through some simple aftercare. Keep hydrating through the day, aiming for 1 to 2 litres of water, eat whole, nutrient-dense meals, and rest if you need to. Keep to gentle movement and avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting with your infusion arm for 24 hours, minimise alcohol, and reduce caffeine for the rest of the day. Your nurse also provides aftercare specific to the formulation you receive.

FAQ

A hydration infusion is based on sterile fluids and electrolytes, delivered through an IV drip. Where it is clinically appropriate and included in your script, vitamins or nutrients can be added. Your formulation is personalised to you at your consultation rather than chosen from a fixed menu.

No referral is required for a hydration infusion. Like all our infusions, it is still practitioner-scripted, which means a nurse and an integrative medical practitioner review your health and confirm that treatment is appropriate before your session. You are welcome to start with a complimentary discovery call to ask any questions first.

A hydration infusion usually runs for around 30 to 60 minutes. Your first visit takes a little longer, around 60 to 90 minutes in total, because it includes your nurse consultation and practitioner scripting. Later visits are shorter once your script is in place.

For everyday hydration, drinking fluids is enough for most people, and an infusion is not a replacement for that. Because a hydration infusion is delivered intravenously, the fluids and electrolytes enter your bloodstream directly, and for some people that route may be a helpful option at particular times. Your nurse can talk through whether it suits your situation.

Because your infusion is personalised, the cost depends on your formulation and whether any additions are included in your script. The clearest way to get an accurate price is a consultation, and we also ask that you let us know your budget for the visit so we can work within it. A complimentary discovery call with a nurse via telehealth is available to talk this through.

Yes. Mobile visits are available throughout the Sunshine Coast and hinterland, and rural visits to Bundaberg, Monto and Crows Nest are offered by expressions of interest, subject to location and clinician availability. The clinical process is the same wherever your session takes place.

Your infusion is administered by a registered nurse in a monitored setting, using single-use consumables. As with any IV treatment, some people notice minor discomfort, bruising or redness at the cannula site. Less commonly, IV treatment can cause vein irritation, infection at the cannula site or a reaction to an ingredient in your formulation, and IV fluids are not suitable for everyone, including some people with heart or kidney conditions. This is why comprehensive screening comes before every session, and your nurse talks you through the risks, what to expect and your aftercare.
