Hangover and Liver Support IV Infusion
A big night or long celebration can leave you dehydrated and flat the next day, because alcohol draws fluid from your body. A hangover and liver support IV infusion at IV Health Sunshine Coast replaces fluids, electrolytes and nutrients in a screened, personalised session, so you can rest and rehydrate.
What Is a Hangover and Liver Support Infusion
This infusion delivers fluids and electrolytes directly into your bloodstream through an IV drip, along with nutrients where these are clinically appropriate and included in your script. It is designed to replace fluids and electrolytes, in a formulation that is personalised to you.
Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it increases fluid loss and can leave you dehydrated and low on electrolytes. Where suitable, nutrients are added to the fluids in your formulation. If you are weighing up a smaller, shorter option, your nurse can talk you through whether a booster may suit you, and you can also explore our other infusion options.
What This Infusion May Support
The job of this infusion is simple and specific: replacing fluids and electrolytes, with nutrients added where clinically appropriate and included in your script. Many people simply want to rest and rehydrate the morning after a big occasion. Individual needs vary, and your suitability is assessed before every session.
People often consider a session in situations such as:
- The morning after a wedding, event weekend or special celebration
- Feeling dehydrated and flat after a night out, once you are otherwise well
- Wanting to rest and rehydrate in a calm, monitored setting
- As part of a broader wellness plan, in consultation with your practitioner
To be clear, this infusion is not a hangover cure and it is not a treatment for intoxication or any alcohol-related illness. It does not remove alcohol from your system or change how quickly your body processes it, and it is not a substitute for medical care. It is also not a reason to drink more, and it does not make drinking more safe.
About Your Liver
An IV infusion does not detox or flush your liver. Your body, including your liver, processes alcohol at its own pace, and the only thing that changes that pace is time.
What this infusion can do is replace fluids and electrolytes, with nutrients added where clinically appropriate and included in your script. It supports your hydration and nutrient levels, nothing more, and it is no replacement for the basics: water, food, sleep and drinking within your own limits. The most reliable way to avoid a rough morning is simply to drink less alcohol.
Screening and Consultation Before Your Infusion
Comprehensive screening sits behind every session at IV Health Sunshine Coast. Before any infusion, a nurse reviews your health history, current medications and wellbeing goals, and an integrative medical practitioner confirms clinical appropriateness and, where suitable, issues a personalised script. No referral is required for this infusion.
If you are feeling very unwell, for example if you cannot keep fluids down or you are concerned about how you are feeling, please seek medical care rather than booking an infusion. If you would prefer to ask some questions first, that is welcome too. A complimentary discovery call with a nurse via telehealth to determine if this is a good fit for you is available.
How to Book a Hangover and Liver Support Infusion
Your first visit runs around 60 to 90 minutes because it includes your consultation and scripting, and later visits are shorter once your script is in place. Here is how the process works, step by step. You can read more on our Our Process page.
Step 1: Nurse Consultation
Your nurse reviews your health history, medications and wellbeing goals, and talks through how you are feeling and what you are hoping for. This is where we get to know you and make sure an infusion is a sensible fit today.
Step 2: Practitioner Consultation and Clinical Scripting
An integrative medical practitioner confirms that treatment is clinically appropriate for you and, where suitable, issues a personalised vitamin and nutrient prescription. Your script is valid for 12 months, so return visits within that time do not repeat this step unless you need something new added.
Step 3: Your Infusion
A registered nurse administers your infusion while you settle into a recliner chair with a massage function, in a calm, monitored setting. Single-use consumables are used every session, and an infusion usually runs for around 30 to 60 minutes.
Step 4: Follow Up and Review
Because individual needs and responses vary, session frequency is decided in consultation with your practitioner rather than set by a fixed schedule. Follow-up sessions are scheduled as needed, with periodic reviews so your plan can be adjusted over time.
Safety and Transparency
Every infusion is administered by a registered nurse in a monitored environment, using single-use consumables each session. Our team brings more than 40 years of combined experience in nursing, midwifery and integrative medicine, and safe prescribing sits at the centre of how we work.
Because the fluids and nutrients are delivered intravenously, they enter your bloodstream directly rather than through digestion. For some people, and where clinically assessed as appropriate, that route of delivery may be a suitable option, though it is not a substitute for medical care, and it is never a reason to drink beyond your own limits. If you notice signs of serious illness after drinking, such as persistent vomiting, confusion or difficulty staying awake, treat it as a medical emergency and seek urgent care.
After your session, your nurse talks you through some simple aftercare. Keep hydrating through the day, aiming for 1 to 2 litres of water, eat whole, nutrient-dense meals, and rest if you need to. Keep to gentle movement and avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting with your infusion arm for 24 hours, minimise alcohol, and reduce caffeine for the rest of the day. Your nurse also provides aftercare specific to the formulation you receive.

FAQ
What Is in a Hangover and Liver Support Infusion?
The formulation is based on fluids and electrolytes, delivered through an IV drip, and where clinically appropriate and included in your script it may also include nutrients selected for you. Your formulation is personalised to you at your consultation.
Does This Infusion Cure a Hangover?
No. It is not a hangover cure, and it does not undo the effects of alcohol or remove alcohol from your system. What it does is replace fluids and electrolytes and top up nutrients while you rest. How you feel still depends on time, sleep, food and water, and the most reliable way to avoid a hangover is to drink less alcohol.
Does It Detox My Liver or Flush Out the Alcohol?
No. Your body, including your liver, processes alcohol at its own pace, and nothing in an infusion speeds that up. We do not make detox or cleanse claims. This infusion simply replaces fluids and electrolytes, with nutrients added where clinically appropriate and included in your script.
Do I Need a Referral?
No referral is required for this infusion. Like all our infusions, it is still practitioner-scripted, which means a nurse and an integrative medical practitioner review your health and confirm that treatment is appropriate before your session. You are welcome to start with a complimentary discovery call to ask any questions first.
How Long Does It Take?
An infusion usually runs for around 30 to 60 minutes. Your first visit takes a little longer, around 60 to 90 minutes in total, because it includes your nurse consultation and practitioner scripting. Later visits are shorter once your script is in place.
Can I Have the Infusion at Home?
Yes. Mobile visits are available throughout the Sunshine Coast and hinterland, and rural visits to Bundaberg, Monto and Crows Nest are offered by expressions of interest, subject to location and clinician availability. The clinical process is the same wherever your session takes place.
When Should I See a Doctor Instead?
If you are very unwell after drinking, an infusion is not the right call. Signs such as persistent vomiting, being unable to keep fluids down, confusion, or difficulty staying awake can be serious and need urgent medical care. If in doubt, please contact your healthcare provider or emergency services rather than booking an infusion.
Are There Any Risks or Side Effects?
Your infusion is administered by a registered nurse in a monitored setting, using single-use consumables. As with any IV treatment, some people notice minor discomfort, bruising or redness at the cannula site. Less commonly, IV treatment can cause vein irritation, infection at the cannula site or a reaction to an ingredient in your formulation, and it is not suitable for everyone, including some people with heart or kidney conditions. This is why comprehensive screening comes before every session, and your nurse talks you through the risks, what to expect and your aftercare.
How Much Does It Cost?
Because your infusion is personalised, the cost depends on your formulation and whether any additions are included in your script. The clearest way to get an accurate price is a consultation, and we also ask that you let us know your budget for the visit so we can work within it. A complimentary discovery call with a nurse via telehealth is available to talk this through.
Rest and Rehydrate, the Considered Way
Because every session is screened, scripted and personalised, an infusion at IV Health Sunshine Coast is planned around your health history and how you are feeling on the day.
